Daniel Dromm Endorses Insurgent Jessica González-Rojas

Key Elected Backs Health Advocate; Cites Experience & Progressive Vision

Jackson Heights, NY - Jessica González-Rojas, Democrat for State Assembly (34th District), earned the pivotal endorsement of City Council Member Daniel Dromm (D-Jackson Heights, Elmhurst) this morning in Jackson Heights, Queens. With only a month left before the Democratic primary on June 23rd, Dromm threw his full weight behind the long-time community activist and social justice leader in her bid to represent one of the hardest hit districts of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I am endorsing Jessica González-Rojas because she is the most progressive, grassroots candidate in the race. Her expertise in public health and advocacy makes Jessica the ideal candidate to represent our community during this terrifying pandemic. The stakes are too high for our neighborhoods which are suffering as the epicenter of this crisis. I know that Jessica is a leader who is unafraid to fight for our neighbors and will forcefully push back against austerity,” said City Council Member Daniel Dromm (D-Jackson Heights, Elmhurst), Finance Committee Chair. “I have worked closely with Jessica in our community for over twenty years. We built the New Visions Democratic Club together. She was a driving force in establishing NICE (New Immigrant Community Empowerment) and has been a staunch ally of our LGBTQ+ community. I am confident that Jessica has everything it takes to be an outstanding elected official. I’m proud to be a part of her winning coalition.”

“I am thrilled to have Council Member Dromm’s support for our progressive campaign. His fierce record of pushing to close Rikers, fighting for immigrants, and being a champion for public schools is a model of what an elected official can do and how they should act when confronted with some of our biggest challenges,” said Jessica González-Rojas, Democrat for State Assembly (NY34). “Danny has been a mentor, partner, and friend for over twenty years of fighting for progress in our community. Together, we can build power to make the changes our community needs.”

Jessica González-Rojas is a life-long activist and change-maker. A nationally-recognized expert on health care reform, gender and racial justice,  Jessica was on the founding board of New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE), a Queens-based immigrant rights organization and a founding member of Jackson Heights' New Visions Democratic Club. She has served in leadership of many local advocacy efforts, including the New York City Transit Riders Council and the New York City Young Women's Initiative. For the past 13 years, Jessica has led a renowned organization dedicated to expanding healthcare access, building Latinx power, and advancing reproductive justice. Jessica has taught as an adjunct professor at CUNY City College and NYU Wagner School of Public Service.

Council Member Dromm is among the most popular elected officials in New York City. After defeating an incumbent for his first term, he was resoundingly re-elected to a second and third term. Dromm’s City Council district overlaps with most of the 34th Assembly district. He becomes the first sitting elected official to endorse González-Rojas. Dromm joins a coalition which includes progressive powerhouse Working Families Party, Make the Road Action, and NARAL.
