González-Rojas’ candidacy received the backing of prominent figures from the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, including Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, as well as community organizations and groups linked to the defense of immigrants’ rights. During the campaign, the now-winner presented a platform focused on affordable housing, worker protection, immigrant rights, and strengthening public services in the neighborhoods of Queens. For her part, Jessica Ramos sought to remain in the position she had held since 2019, after several years as one of the most visible Democratic figures within the New York State Senate.
