Jackson Heights, NY — Today, 32BJ SEIU, the nation’s largest union of property service workers, announced its endorsement of Jessica González-Rojas in the Democratic primary for State Senate District 13, representing Jackson Heights, Corona, East Elmhurst, LeFrak City, Elmhurst, and parts of Rego Park and Forest Hills. 32BJ SEIU represents tens of thousands of workers across New York, including building service workers, airport workers, cleaners, doormen, and security officers, many of whom live and work in the diverse Queens neighborhoods that make up the district.
Union leaders said their endorsement reflects González-Rojas’ record of standing with working families, immigrant communities, and essential workers, and their confidence in her ability to deliver results for working people in Albany.
“Throughout her time in public office, Jessica González-Rojas has been a champion for 32BJ SEIU members and the issues that touch our members’ lives,” said 32BJ SEIU Secretary Treasurer John Santos. “JGR is building a diverse coalition in Senate District 13 and is the right leader for the moment. We are proud to endorse her for the State Senate.”
González-Rojas has built a reputation in the State Assembly as a coalition-builder focused on advancing policies that support immigrant workers, strengthen social safety nets, and improve economic security for working families.
“I’m deeply honored to receive the endorsement of 32BJ SEIU and the hardworking men and women who keep New York running every day,” said Jessica González-Rojas, Democrat for State Senate. “The cleaners, doormen, airport workers, and security officers represented by 32BJ are the backbone of our city. They deserve leaders who will fight for dignity on the job, fair wages, and real opportunity for their families. I’m especially proud to carry forward the legacy of the late Héctor Figueroa, a Jackson Heights neighbor whose leadership transformed the lives of working people across our city and inspired so many of us to keep fighting for justice for workers.”
González-Rojas emphasized that the endorsement reflects the shared priorities between her campaign and the union’s membership. “In neighborhoods like Jackson Heights, Corona, and East Elmhurst, so many families rely on the protections and opportunities that organized labor makes possible,” González-Rojas said. “In the State Senate, I will work hand-in-hand with 32BJ to strengthen worker protections, defend immigrant families, and ensure that working people have a seat at the table when decisions are made.”
32BJ’s endorsement adds to the growing labor coalition supporting González-Rojas’ campaign which includes 1199SEIU, HTC, and Unite Here Local 100 reflecting the importance of organized labor in shaping the future of working families in Queens.
With this support, González-Rojas’ campaign continues to build a broad, grassroots coalition rooted in collaboration, inclusion, and results. Joining a rapidly expanding movement of support for JGR from esteemed leaders like Congress Members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nydia Velasquez; Public Advocate Jumaane Williams; Queens Borough President Donovan Richards; State Senator Jabari Brisport; Assembly Members Catalina Cruz, Steven Raga, Claire Valdez, Andrew Hevesi, Khaleel Anderson, Emily Gallagher and Phara Souffrant Forrest; City Council Members Shekar Krishnan, Tiffany Cabán, Linda Lee, Julie Won, Jennifer Gutierrez, Chi Ossé, Alexa Avíles, Sandy Nurse and Shahana Hanif; former Assembly Member Jeffrion Aubry; and progressive organizations like the Working Families Party, Make the Road Action, and Sunrise Movement NYC; among many, many others.
