Release: NY Working Families Party Endorses Progressive Jessica González-Rojas for Assembly District 34

NY-WFP State Director Sochie Nnaemeka: Jessica is “the only progressive in the race with a consistent record of fighting for racial justice”

NEW YORK— The New York Working Families Party today endorsed Jessica González-Rojas for Assembly District 34. In their endorsement, NY-WFP State Director Sochie Nnaemeka praised Gonzáles-Rojas’ record fighting for healthcare as a human right and for racial justice. The 34th District is made up of 88% people of color and is approximately 60% Latinx.

“The Working Families Party is proud to endorse Jessica González-Rojas, a nationally recognized expert on healthcare who will be a leader on moving New York towards a system that recognizes high-quality and accessible healthcare as a human right,” said NY-WFP State Director Sochie Nnaemeka. “The 34th district is one of the most diverse districts in the country — and this community now has the opportunity to not only elect the first Latina to represent them, but also the only progressive in the race with a consistent record of fighting for racial justice. We're excited to stand with Jessica and work together to make New York work for all of our communities.”

“It is a great honor to have the Working Families Party endorse our campaign,” said Jessica González-Rojas, candidate for State Assembly (NY34). “We are building a movement to bring progressive change to the 34th Assembly District and I can’t think of a better partner to work with than WFP. Our collective values and commitment to the working people in our communities will be an enormous boost to our coalition.”

This endorsement follows dozens of other WFP endorsements for 2020 in all corners of the state, spanning New York City, the Hudson Valley, the North Country, Long Island, Syracuse, and the Capitol Region.

In 2018, the NY WFP played a key role in flipping the State Senate by unseating corporate Democrats and Republicans alike. In the 2019 legislative session that followed, WFP champions helped usher through the most progressive legislative session New York had seen in decades, including landmark legislation on renters’ protections, climate action, immigrant rights, criminal justice reform, and more.
